Kimb--17

We have all been exposed to a whole range of theories and concepts in a classroom situation. Do these sink in, or just float away in the bar afterwards, how do we learn solid concepts and gain workable strategies or generate new knowledge?

The Kimberley Course is run by facilitators who support your learning from a variety of interesting, sometimes diabolical and always unique challenges and opportunities, not the least being - how do we influence and manage in a small team of our peers (no more than 7 to a team) whilst achieving successful outcomes. Multiple processes are employed to support transfer of knowledge back to the workplace and home to encourage ongoing learning.

On this course you will discover:

Increased forms of emotional intelligence

Start with vision - then apply to reality

Communicating effectively

Relationship and interaction skills

Conflict resolution

Contemporary “team” skills

Self management techniques

There are three main sections to the Kimberley Course:

1. Frontloading

This requires pre-course work ensuring clarity about learning outcomes you need from this investment of money and time. This is through a structured process with your manager and other key people in your life. You are also required to undertake a profiling exercise using Myers Briggs Type Indicators (MBTI), which will be used as a personal and team tool for understanding different needs, behaviours and styles and providing leadership across the diversity in what will be your team.

MBTI is the world's most widely used personality profiling tool. Its success results from two factors:

— a solidly researched model which yields highly valid results
— extensive applications in the workplace (and in non-work life)

It is especially useful in group situations to help you understand how to interact with others. MBTI will assist with:

— Understanding Self and Others
— Communication and Conflict Resolution
— Leadership and Personal Development
— Managing Change
— Effective team working
— Managing Self and Others
— Selling and Customer Services
— One-to-one Coaching

2. Discovery

Discovery is the debriefing during your journey - be aware that this is not something done once only or when it’s all over. The Discovery phase is constant and wide ranging, and includes returning to your purpose, comparing what you started before the Course versus what you are actually doing and looking for the gaps that you decide you will change.

Discovery means continually asking important questions -

What am I doing well?

What do I need to do better?

What do I have to stop doing?

What is the learning here?

What action do I implement from this?

In this phase you learn to compare the theory with the realities and generate new knowledge, of yourself and others.

Discovery is also about exploring consequences - different people experimenting with different ways to achieve common goals, and adjusting the methods as we go, to attain success.

3. Solutions

Now that you have been through the above, what are you going to do differently? This final phase provides the opportunity to practice in real situations, requiring real management and leadership with significant consequences, the tools that you want to take back to your life and the workplace.

Solutions includes discussion your sponsors and follow through with your team facilitators.

Each year the Kimberley Intensive Management/Leadership Programme undergoes a wide variety of change to ensure learning is contemporary.

The consistent feedback from previous participants describes demonstrated results from using their experience and their learning so as to improve their effectiveness and efficiencies.

“Even after all these years, I draw on those fundamentals that before then I never realised were so important”.
